“Living Well for Better Health” is a series of free workshops open to any adult who has a long-term health condition. This highly acclaimed program will run a new session at the Picker Family Resource Center for six weeks on Tuesdays, September 11 through October 16 from 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. There is no cost for this program, but registration is required by calling 596-8950.
Participants are invited to bring a family member or friend to attend the workshops with them. “Living Well for Better Health” is for people with any chronic health condition, such as diabetes, arthritis, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure and depression. Participants learn how to deal with pain and feeling tired; eat healthy and exercise; communicate effectively with their physicians; manage medications; set goals and make changes. Healthy snacks will be served. One person said, after attending the workshops, “Now I have the energy to do the things that matter.” Another said simply, “It re-booted me in my own life.”
The program will be led by Wendelanne Augunas, LCPC and Linda Zeigler, RN, co-directors of the Picker Family Resource Center. “This course helps people embrace and step into the ‘new normal,’ ” said Augunas, ” whether they are recovering from an injury, facing a terminal illness, suffering from chronic pain or caring for someone else. It’s more than a support group. There are goals, specific information, a handbook—it’s a whole curriculum encompassing pain management, diet and exercise, as well as putting people in touch with the resources they need.”
The “Living Well for Better Health” series is sponsored by Spectrum Generations, Healthy Choices for ME and the Picker Family Resource Center.
The Picker Family Resource Center is located between the Women’s Health Center and Urology Building on the Pen Bay Medical Center campus, 3 Glen Cove Drive, off Route 1 in Rockport. Use the parking lot and door nearest the Urology side of the building. Call 596-8950 for directions if needed and to register for this class.
