Coastal Quilters and George’s Valley Quilters will hold their “Annual Quilters’ Auction & Sale” on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Camden Lions Club on Lions Lane in Camden. Each year, this event occurs just in time to kick off your holiday shopping for special, unique, reasonably priced gifts for the people in your life.
Gather at 9:30 for coffee, conversation and “sneak previews.” The Auction & Sale will begin at 10 a.m. sharp and run until approximately 1 p.m. with a refreshment/lunch break. The event is free and open to the public.
Preparation for this event goes on year long with individual members of each guild working on a wide range of specific fabric arts projects they donate to the auction/sale.
The auction itself consists of both a “Silent and Live Auction” with a wide variety of items, most handmade, the event hallmark. Product craftsmanship is outstanding and the range of prices is sure to fit everyone’s needs. You’ll find beautiful, handmade fabric arts products including full sized quilts, quilted wall hangings, table runners and napkins, knitted and woven items, all types of clothing, purses/bags, high quality fabrics and yarns and so much more. In addition, members often donate large-ticket items such as perfectly good equipment they’ve “outgrown.”
Silent auction items are displayed with an accompanying silent auction sheet. Just peruse the items and if interested, write your auction number (a numbered auction plate is provided as folks sign in), and the amount you want to bid on the auction item sheet. The silent auction continues throughout the day, with a brief, timed break during the live auction to give silent auction bidders a chance to finalize their bids.
The Live Auction always proves to be a fun-filled, often raucous event, led by guild member auctioneers. Each year, two to three live auction items often generate surprising, even humorous, very energetic bidding wars providing entertainment and laughter for all.
The sale tables feature a different array of wonderful, hand-crafted fabric art products (usually smaller items, but still of the highest quality), designed for all ages – infants to grandma and grandpa and all in between. Products range from things to wear – socks & hats & scarves & mittens & sweaters as well as special items for the house, holidays & decorations and numerous fabric art related cards & journals & scrapbooks. Also featured are gently used treasures including fabric arts books & patterns and other supplies and a wide array of fabrics & yarns & other materials & tools for all kinds of fabric arts projects.
Refreshment interludes provide delicious sustenance for the auction process and a great opportunity to meet and socialize with so many talented fabric artisans.
Funds raised from the auction/sale are used by the guilds to support the guilds’ programs, community service projects and scholarship programs. For more information about the event, contact Prudy Netzorg, 354-0983 or Nancy Connon, 236-8178 or Stevie Kumble, 236-2352.
