The Friends of Rockport Public Library will hold its 44th Annual Book Sale from Thursday, July 11, through Sunday, July 14 at the Midcoast Recreation Center on Route 90 in Rockport. Thousands of quality books, DVDs, CDs, puzzles and other literary material will be available. This year there are particularly nice selections of cookbooks and gardening books that were donated, as well as many categories of nonfiction and fiction books.
On Thursday, July 11, the sale will open with a Friends Only Sale from 5 to 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to join the Friends group. A year’s membership is $10 for individuals, $15 for families and $50 for businesses. Members can preview the sale and buy a select number of books. Membership dues can be paid ahead of time at the library or at the book sale. The group prefers that dues be paid by check, if possible.
The Sale will be open to the public on Friday, July 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Saturday, July 13, the Sale will re-open at 8:30 a.m. and go until noon.
From 1 to 3 p.m. the Box O Books Sale offers books at a discount. The Sale will conclude on Sunday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. when all remaining books are free.
This year as a special treat for children four local children’s authors will be available to sign their books during the sale. On Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. Liza Walsh will be there to sign The Fairy House Handbook and Fairy Garden Handbook. On Friday Melissa Sweet, author of Tupelo Rides the Rails and many others, and Chris Van Dusen, who will read from one of his Mr. Magee books, will be there from 11 a.m. to noon. On Saturday Fran Hodgkins, author of over 20 children’s books including Andre the Famous Harbor Seal, will be at the sale from 11 a.m. to noon. In addition volunteers from the Rockport Garden Club and the library will sell homemade treats Thursday and Friday.
All of the funds raised will be donated directly to the Rockport Public Library. The funds are used to purchase new books, for program materials, multimedia resources,
children’s programs and equipment for the library.
