‘Freezin’ for a Reason’ Polar Dip Saturday Feb 16 at Camp CaPella

Still Somehow Inevitable Despite One-Week Delay

Proceeds to Benefit Camp Sunshine and Camp CaPella

DEDHAM, February 11 – Despite the snowstorm delay, brazenly brave human beings once more face the daunting prospect of plunging through a big hole in the ice on Phillips Lake in Dedham – home of Camp CaPella – at the annual “Freezin’ for a Reason” Polar Dip on Saturday, February 16 beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Plunging volunteers may continue raising funds (at least $100 per plunger required) from those wishing to sponsor these foolhardy Polar Dips that are quickly followed by Solar Dips into hot tubs (provided by Sandollar Spa & Pool for this event). All contributions from plungers, visitors and sponsors will be donated either to Camp Sunshine (for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families) or Camp CaPella (for children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities).

The Dedham Fire Department Cold Water Rescue Team will be onsite and ready to respond if needed. Hot drinks and snacks will be available to plungers for free and to spectators by donations.

Registration will begin at noon, with plunges beginning at 1:00 p.m. All parking (except for handicapped persons and reporters) will be at the Lucerne Inn and Dedham School with shuttle buses running back and forth starting at 11:30 a.m.

To start raising funds for Camp Sunshine, form or join a team, and donate online, one can visit http://www.crowdrise.com/BangorPolarDip. To begin the process for Camp CaPella, one can visit http://campcapella.org/2013-polar-plunge-3/.

On Saturday news media only may park in the Camp CaPella parking lot. Reporters and news crews should plan to set up by 12:30 p.m. The Polar Dip will begin at 1:00 p.m. But dippers will only stay freezin’ for a reason for a few seconds, then jump out and into a hot tub. So dippers may be done by 2:00 p.m. or soon after.
