SUMMER STOCK

1950 • 109m

New England farmer Jane Falbury (Judy Garland) reluctantly offers her barn to sister Abigail (Gloria DeHaven) and her theater troupe for rehearsals. In exchange for her hospitality, city slicker actors and director Joe Ross (Gene Kelly) get a taste of rural chores. Love and music soon fill the air. This 1950 musical, Garland’s last for MGM, includes a rousing rendition of the Portland Fancy contra dance, Kelly gracefully dancing on a newspaper, and Judy singing “Get Happy” decked out in heels, fedora and tuxedo jacket.
