FastFire Bronze Metal Clay Class

A FastFire Bronze Metal Clay class will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, October 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Beaded Moose, 1460 Outer Hammond St., Bangor, ME.

This is a beginning level class—no experience is needed! Students will take home at least one finished bronze piece. Students with metal clay experience are also welcome. The two-day class format allows for cooling of the work, finishing and tumbling of pieces to achieve a shiny gold-like finish. A basic tool kit and packet of FastFire Bronze are included in the class fee of $85. Class size is limited to 6 students.

Metal clay is a clay-like compound of powdered bronze in an organic binder. It has the feel of modeling clay. While wet it can be formed into pendants, earrings and other types of jewelry and small sculptures using simple tools. It is air-dried, then fired at a high temperature in a small kiln. The binder burns away and the metal particles sinter and become solid bronze. Once fired, metal clay can be polished and finished. It is easy and fun to work with.

Certified PMC Instructor and local artist Janelle Delicata will teach the class. Delicata shows mixed media fine art and metal clay jewelry at many galleries in Maine. Examples of her work can be seen at The Beaded Moose or on her website
