Local Artist Announces Fall Classes At The Beaded Moose

Janelle Delicata of Prospect has announced her Fall 2012 schedule of metal clay-related classes to be held at The Beaded Moose, 1460 Outer Hammond Street, Bangor.

Classes will cover a wide range of topics and skill levels. Pre-registration is required and classes are limited to six students each.

Intro to Precious Metal Clay (beginner), Sunday, October 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This is an introduction to the world of fine silver metal clay. A basic tool kit and packet of PMC 3 are included in the $105 class fee. Students will learn to work with metal clay and can expect to take home at least one finished piece of jewelry.

FastFire Bronze (all levels), Saturday, October 20, 10 to 4 and Sunday, October 21, 10 to 2. This class is an introduction to bronze metal clay, a less expensive alternative to silver. This is a two-day workshop to allow work to cool in the kiln after firing and to be finished the next day. A tumbler will be available for those wanting a highly polished surface. Different finishes will be demonstrated. A basic tool kit and packet of FastFire Bronze clay are included in the $85 class fee.

Molds & Textures (all levels), Sunday, October 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Learn how to create your own unique texture plates and three-dimensional molds. Students will make a photopolymer plate (PPP) for re-usable textures and also make re-usable molds with two-part cold mold compound using pebbles, leaves and other simple small objects. Materials for one PPP and a small mold are included in the $65 class fee.

PMC Hollow Forms (intermediate level), Sunday December 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Learn how to create beautiful hollow beads in this intermediate level class. Some previous experience with metal clay is suggested. Students will learn the basics of 6 different hollow forms and go home with at least one finished bead. Bring your basic tool kit. A packet of PMC+ is provided in the $135 class fee.

Intro to Precious Metal Clay (beginner), Sunday, December 9 from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m.

This is a second section of the basic introduction class.

There will be tools and equipment for use during the classes to supplement the provided tool kits. The instructor will have some small tools and additional metal clay available for purchase at the classes and jewelry findings are available for purchase from The Beaded Moose.

Janelle Delicata is an artist and designer working in mixed media and metal clay. She has a BFA from the Maryland Institute, College of Art and an MFA from Rochester Institute of Technology’s School For American Crafts. She has been working in metal clay for over three years and became a Certified PMC Instructor two years ago. She exhibits both fine art and fine craft in many local galleries and shops and participates in local shows and fairs with her business “everyday jewelry & wearable art.”

There will also be two Open Workshop & Firing Days. These will be Sunday, November 11 from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m. and Sunday, December 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Open Workshops are informal get-togethers. This is a chance to finish up and fire those projects and holiday gifts or make a nice little something for your self. Janelle will be available to answer questions and to fire the kiln. Open Workshops are not classes but are a chance to work and connect with others doing metal clay. There is a $20 fee to cover the workspace and firing.
