The Downeast Death Cafe meets on the first Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. starting Jan. 7 at the Cobscook Community Learning Center.
The Death Cafe was born after Chuck Kniffen and Rhonda Welcome heard a program on NPR about the global social franchise of “Death Cafe.” More can be learned about the organization at www.deathcafe.org.
We believe that death is a universal common denominator for all peoples and we are interested in hearing many differing viewpoints to give our group a constantly renewed vitality, a unity of purpose in joining together people from different walks of life and to create a continuity of shared experience in our community.
While this is neither a grief counseling group nor an estate planning forum, a list of referral services will be available for participants. Topics have ranged widely, from the philosophy of Sartre, to poetry, personal experience and the best selling book by Rebecca Skloot, “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.” Come join us and be a part of this growing global movement to shed the light of understanding on death and the wonder of life.
