On Tuesday, November 5 at 7:00pm, the Cobscook Community Learning Center welcomes the Downeast Death Cafe for their monthly meeting.

The Downeast Death Cafe was born after Chuck Kniffen and Rhonda Welcome heard a program on NPR about the global social franchise of “Death Café.” For more information about the Death Café phenomenon visit

While this is neither a grief counseling group nor an estate planning forum, a list of referral services will be available for participants. Topics have ranged widely, from the philosophy of Sartre, to poetry, personal experience and the best selling book by Rebecca Skloot, “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.” Come join us and be a part of this growing global movement to shed the light of understanding on death and the wonder of life.

We believe that death is a universal common denominator for all peoples and we are interested in hearing many differing viewpoints to give our group a constantly renewed vitality, a unity of purpose in joining together people from different walks of life and to create a continuity of shared experience in our community.

This month we will be viewing the movie “Bill T. Jones: Still/Here with Bill Moyers,” with a group discussion to follow. Please feel free to join us. There will be free refreshments, though donations are accepted.

The CCLC is located at 10 Commissary Point Rd, Trescott Twp. For more information, contact Chuck or Rhonda at or 207-733-4844, Valerie Lawson at 207-733-2233.
