Author Lincoln Paine will speak to COA’s Human Ecology Forum on Tuesday, March 11 at 4:10 pm about Down East: A Maritime History of Maine.

Paine is the author of five books and more than fifty articles, reviews, and lectures on maritime history. His books include Down East: A Maritime History of Maine, and Ships of the World: An Historical Encyclopedia.

He serves on the boards of the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, and of The Telling Room, a non-profit writing center for children and young adults in Portland, Maine. He and his wife live in Portland with their daughters, who happen to be named for ships. Paine’s latest book, The Sea and Civilization, retells the last 3,500 years of civilization’s history through the lens of maritime travel, trade, and exploration.
