BAR HARBOR, ME—College of the Atlantic has a community orchestra composed of students and local residents. The group meets every Wednesday during the college’s 10-week term, from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. in Gates Community Center.

The orchestra is under the direction of John Cooper, COA faculty member in music and a composer of classical, film, and jazz work. The group is especially in need of string musicians and those who play French horn. It can also use flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, oboe, and bassoon. Participants will practice and perform a range of classical and contemporary music.

Cooper is a saxophonist, bassist, jazz vocalist, brass doubles, and synthesist/pianist with an active performance schedule that has included the major venues in Philadelphia/Baltimore, New Jersey, and Maine.

The first rehearsal session was Sept. 12, but community members are welcome to join later. For more information, please contact Cooper at, or 288-5015.
