On Sunday, Aug. 12, the final day of this year’s 39th Annual International Homecoming Festival, all the incredibly decorated chairs which you have been seeing all over Calais and especially downtown on Main Street will be auctioned off at Triangle Park. This is a really special fundraiser to support the efforts of the Calais Downtown Revitalization Coalition (CDRC). At 11 a.m., the fun begins with all the chairs gathering at the park for a preview and then at Noon the auction begins. Popular auctioneer Bill Cassidy who helped out during the previous Chair Affair about five years ago is back by popular demand.
This is also a popularity contest so be sure to vote for your favorite chair. Ballots for voting are available at participating businesses. This year’s event has 30 participants. Chairs are sponsored by The Bank of Maine, Dead River Company, Eastern Maine Electric Co-Op, Inc., Headlines Hair Studio, Karen’s Main St. Diner, City of Calais, Bailey’s Family Restaurant, Tammi J. Smith Tax & Accounting Service, Sew Outrageous Upholstery, Townhouse Restaurant, Border Town Subz, Boston Shoe Store, Jo’s Diner & Pizzeria, CIA, Calais Bookshop, The First, Kendall’s Fine Jewelers, Calais Downtown Revitalization Coalition, Maineline Studio, Tangles, Sherwin-Williams Co., Calais Free Library, Urban Moose, Due East Real Estate, Rejuvenation Day Spa, Artemis’s Attic, Bangor Savings Bank, Hair Masters, International Motel, and Northern Tack.
