Pat Lemieux | BDNIt’s time again for the Celtic Celebration’s running/walking race, on a relatively flat course, through the lovely picturesque, and proudly historic neighborhoods of Belfast, Maine over five kilometers or 3.1 miles.
The Sixth Annual Celtic 5K Road Race will take place on Saturday, July 21 beginning at 8:15 walk/8:30 a.m run. Everyone is welcome to join the Celtic 5K Road Race. Entry fee is $15 preregistered or $18 on the day of the race. Pre-registration can be done on-line again this year at Active.com or by filling in the form below and e-mailing it to celtic.celebration@gmail.com or snail mailing it to Celtic Celebration, PO Box 122, Belfast, ME 04915 . Runners/walkers may also fill out registration forms just before the race at 7:30-8:15 a.m. in the Belfast High School under the awning at the front entrance.
At 8:15 a.m., walkers will begin from the Belfast High School in front of the main entrance, through the parking lot down Waldo Avenue, crossing Main Street and then up Cedar Street. Then take a left onto Penobscot Terrace and then another left onto Northport Avenue. Head left up Church Street to Miller Street for a short trek “up” to Cedar Street. Turn right onto Cedar Street to cross Main Street and again up Waldo Avenue to the Finish Line back at Belfast High School. Runners will join the same course at 8:30.
The first 50 registrants will receive a tee-shirt and we have great prizes for winners in each running category and all walkers will be entered into a prize raffle. These will be provided by generous sponsors and by the hosting event, the Sixth Annual Celtic Festival at the Belfast Common. Prize categories for runners in the Celtic 5K Road Race are ages 12 and under, ages 13-18, ages 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 plus 60 and over. Spectators, fans, families and Celtic cheerleaders are also welcome to watch from anywhere along the course, or simply from the Start and Finish Lines. As we know there are many first-class, A-team runners/walkers from our local area, as well as those traveling to get here for this unique event. It should be an event enjoyed by all!
Volunteers are always appreciated. Anyone can help with tasks such as race registration, serving runners/walkers at the water station, guiding runners through intersections and timing the Celtic 5K Road Race. Those interested please contact race director, Carol Browning, at celtic.celebration@gmail.com or by calling 342-2624.
And the Celtic 5K Road Race is only the beginning! It’s followed by great music and activities at the Belfast Common for the next two days, Saturday and Sunday, July 21-22.
Come one, come all!
