ELLSWORTH, Maine — The odds will be in favor of fans of Suzanne Collins’ “The Hunger Games” series at the Ellsworth Public Library. Teens can gear up for the premiere of the film adaptation of the second book in the trilogy, “Catching Fire,” with Hunger Games-themed activities on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 6 p.m. at the library.
In “Catching Fire,” after winning the 74th annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark, Katniss Everdeen finds that being a winner means losing those closest to her. But all that soon falls under the shadow of a simmering rebellion that could change the dystopia of Panem forever.
“The Hunger Games” is the award-winning and bestselling futuristic trilogy for readers aged 12 to adult. In addition to being a New York Times number-one best seller, “Catching Fire” has been recognized as a Kirkus Best Book, a Booklist Editors’ Choice, and a Publishers Weekly Best Book. Among other accolades, The Los Angeles Times named “Catching Fire” the best Children’s Book of 2009.
The film adaptation, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” will be in theaters and IMAX Nov. 22. It brings back stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, and Lenny Kravitz along with new cast members Philip Seymour Hoffman, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone and Jeffrey Wright. Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland also return to reprise their characters in the film. The film is directed by Francis Lawrence.
