MaineStream Finance, a subsidiary of Penquis, is offering a free Business 101 workshop to anyone interested in knowing more about starting a business. Many people have an idea for a business but are unsure of the next steps or what is involved in starting a business. Business 101 will help answer those questions.

The two hour workshop will be offered on Tuesday, August 21, and Wednesday and again on September 5, at 6:00 pm at Penquis, 262 Harlow St., Bangor.

The workshop provides an overview of the pros and cons of operating a small business, including the basics of a business plan, the importance of networking, creating and managing a budget, available resources for business development and understanding credit.

MaineStream Finance also offers small business lending and one on one business technical assistance with a Microenterprise Consultant.

The workshop instructor will be James Macomber, Microenterprise Consultant and 2008 SBA Home Based Business Champion for Maine and New England.
