Cellardoor Winery and Megunticook Market will take guests on a dazzling journey to Motown at their fifth annual Pop the Cork party in Rockport on June 28. The evening will be highlighted by a concert by Boyz II Men, the silky-voiced, four-time Grammy winners whose records have out-sold all other male R&B groups. Pop the Cork tickets are limited and usually sell out, so everyone is encouraged to buy tickets early.
Midcoast Habitat for Humanity will receive one hundred percent of the proceeds from the evening, and Cellardoor’s Bettina Doulton and Lani Temple of Megunticook Market say they are counting on another sell-out this year. “If we sell all the tickets,” says Doulton, “it will be a big start toward building a house for a hardworking family in our community. That would be so wonderful!”
In addition to Boyz II Men, there will be more Motown music by the group North Shore Acapella, which was featured on NBC’s “The Sing-Off”; plus Portland’s own soulful 20-piece band, the Fogcutters.
The party will take place from 5:30 until 10 p.m. in two tented venues in Rockport. Doulton and Temple and their teams are busy putting the finishing touches on plans for the evening, which is always a spectacular celebration of the arts, wine, and food. The night’s entertainment will be complemented by fabulous food from Megunticook Market and wines from Cellardoor’s vintner Aaron Peet. Many new surprises are being planned as well, including a colorful troupe of performance artists.
Boyz II Men will sing their much-loved ballads, including “End of the Road,” “I’ll Make Love to You,” and “One Sweet Day,” which holds the record for number of weeks at the top of Billboard magazine’s Hot 100. Their concert will also include Motown classics made famous by such legends as Marvin Gaye, the Temptations, and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles.
Pop the Cork 2012 is organized and produced by Bettina Doulton, owner of Cellardoor Winery, and Lani Temple, owner of Megunticook Market. Tickets are $75, which includes admission to all events, and advance purchase is required. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Winery at 207-763-4478. Check-in to the event will be held at the large tent on Rockport harbor, beginning at 5 p.m. Parking will be available at Camden Hills Regional High School on Route 90 in Rockport. Trolley service will be provided between the parking area and the two venues.
