BREWER, Maine — River City Cinema will present an exclusive screening of “Betting the Farm” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Brewer Performing Arts Center, Brewer Community School, 92 Pendleton St. A discussion with the filmmaker and a farmer or two will follow the movie.

“Betting the Farm” was the winner of the Camden International Film Festival 2012 Audience Award.

Directed by Cecily Pingree and Jason Mann, the film follows a group of Maine dairy farmers dropped by their national milk company as they launch their own milk company in a bid to save their farms. Owned by the farmers and committed to paying a sustainable price for their milk, with slow sales and mounting bills, can the farmers hang together long enough for the gamble to pay off?

Admission is $8, available at the door or at rivercitycinema.org.
