BETHEL, Maine — The Bethel Winterfest will be filled with snowy events Feb. 9-24, including a Snowcano — a volcano made of snow. Many events , including alpine and Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, concerts  and children’s activities will take place in various venues throughout the area.

* Feb. 9, A sledding hill on the side of the Snowcano open to the public all day beginning at 10 a.m.

* Feb. 16, The Snowcano will erupts at 6:30 p.m. A 40-foot-tall bonfire will be built inside the snow hill. The sparks and flames create the effect of a volcano.

* Feb. 23, A RAILWARS rail jam will feature  skiers and snowboarders showing off their best moves on rails set into the side of the Snowcano.
