BELFAST, Maine — Belfast Garden Club will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church Parish House, 95 Court St. The meeting will feature a presentation by Jerome Weiner, “The Maine Coastal Regional Reentry Center Garden Project,” at 2 p.m. The talk is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
Jerome Weiner is the program manager for The Maine Coastal Regional Reentry Center, which works to integrate state and county inmates back into their communities after serving time in prison. The garden project will be in its fourth year of operation in 2013. Over the past three summers it has produced tens of thousands of pounds of vegetables and shared the produce with more than three-dozen programs that provide food to those in need. Reentry Center residents do much of the work in the garden.
The short horticulture topic at the meeting will be “Invasive Species: Invasive Plants to Watch For in 2013″ presented by Hildy Ellis of the Knox-Lincoln Soil and Water Conservation District.
