Experience the great outdoors in the heart of Portland at the BDN Maine Outdoors Expo – May 4th and 5th at the Portland Expo.

This is Maine’s premier display of gear and accessories for bikers, hunters, kayakers, hikers, rock climbers, surfers, stand-up paddle boarders, and fishing enthusiasts. Enjoy Gear demonstrations, indoor climbing wall, summer golf tips, activities for the family and guest authors and outdoor enthusiasts.

Come experience the the fun and excitement of the outdoors with your family right at the show with activities ranging from a rock wall to an inflatable obstacle course.

Rock Climbing Wall

  • Test your skills on out 25ft climbing wall.

  • A chance to bond with your family as you scale up a 4-sided climbing wall.

Four Station Bungee Trampoline

  • Jump, flip, and live out your dreams of being an acrobat on our four station bungee trampoline

  • Bounce and practice flips 15 ft up in the air.

The Maine-iac Challenge Obstacle Course

  • Compete against your friends and family thought 71 ft of grueling excitement.

  • Race through the inflatable meeting several challenges culminating with an 18ft slide at the end.

John Holyooke – Outdoors Editor

According to John Holyoke’s job title, he’s the Outdoors Editor at the BDN. He’d tell you he’s a storyteller. For 20 years, he’s been entertaining readers with award-winning stories and columns about the people and critters he encounters in his travels, both here in Maine and beyond.

Saturday: 11-12:30 am

Andrew Skurka – Gear, Supplies & Skills Clinic

An accomplished adventure athlete, speaker, guide, and author of “The Ultimate Hiker’s Gear Guide: Tools & Tips to Hit the Trail,” Andrew has backpacked, skied, and packrafted 30,000-plus miles of the world’s most extreme backcountry.

John Ford Sr. – Game Warden

A native Mainer who comes from a long line of Maine Game Wardens, John, upon his retirement, was elected to two terms as a county sheriff. His experiences are found in his book, “Suddenly the Cider Didn’t Taste So Good – Adventures of a Game Warden in Maine.”

Bill Irwin –  Accomplished Blind Hiker

Author of “Blind Courage,” Bill is the only blind person to ever have completed the 2,168-mile Appalachian Trail with the help of his seeing eye dog, Orient. Bill now shares his motivational message of perseverance at appearances across the US.

Saturday: 3:30 – 4:30 pm

Andrew Skurka – Circling Alaska and Yukon

An adventure athlete, speaker, guide, and author of “The Ultimate Hiker’s Gear Guide: Tools & Tips to Hit the Trail,” Andrew has traveled the equivalent of 1.2 times around Earth’s equator – in some of the world’s most extreme terrain.

Saturday: 5 – 5:30 pm

Jonathan Carter – Bass Fisherman

Jonathan is the first Mainer to compete in bass fishing’s biggest event, the 2013 Bassmaster Classic. He regularly travels to compete in state and regional bass tournaments and hopes to earn another spot in the 2014 Bassmaster Classic.

Sunday: 10:30 – 11:00 AM

Aislinn Sarnaki, BDN Outdoors Writer and Blogger

Aislinn is a BDN Maine Outdoors reporter who has a love of the outdoors that started when she was a child who collected bugs and chased wild turkeys. She has a passion for hiking, and she writes the hiking blog, Act Out With Aislinn and produces a weekly 1-Minute Hike print and video series.

Sunday: 11:30 – 12:30 PM

Paul Molyneaux & His Son

Paul Molyneaux and his 8-year-old son, Ashe,r completed the Appalachian Trail in 2010, and in February 2013, Molyneaux published their story in “A Child’s Walk in the Wilderness.” The two discuss what they learned and what it’s like to be the second-youngest person to ever complete the entire AT.

Emily MacCabe

An outdoor educator at the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife and coordinator for the Maine Becoming an Outdoors Woman program, Emily provides opportunities for women to gain or improve skills in hunting, fishing, and outdoor education.  .

Thor Emory – Owner and Lead Instructor of Thorfinn Expeditions

A native of Mount Desert Island and a resident of Lincolnville, Thor is a lifelong sailor, outdoor enthusiast, and outdoor educator. He’s spent most of his life exploring and leading groups all over North America, and established Thorfinn Expeditions which provides outstanding sailing adventures.
