Art Space Gallery will host an opening reception on Friday evening, July 6, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Art Space Gallery is home to works by 19 artists, a few of whom are featured each month in the gallery’s front salon. Featured in July are mono-type prints by Anne Wooster, paintings by Hannah Nelsbach, forged artwork by metalsmith Lara Max, and fine art figure and nature photography by Charles Laurier Dufour.
Using fresh, succulent verdant ferns that were harvested right here on Maine’s midcoast, Anne Wooster creates mono-type prints. Each piece is unique and printed using oil based etching inks, forever fixing each plant’s expression, its “impression”, on paper. To her repertoire this year, Wooster has added a delicate touch of paint to some of her works.
Bold and colorful, paintings by Hannah Nelsbach invariably bring smiles to peoples’ faces. Nelsbach’s paintings are fancifully imaginative and are often more textural than paintings by other artists. She creatively utilizes paper, pencil, canvas, acrylic paints, pastel, fiberglass, wood, gouache, and occasionally even Bone China!
Inspired by the natural surroundings on her small farm, Lara Max uses traditional blacksmithing techniques combining hammer blows and high heat to forge metal into art. Max’s marsh birds, elegant and truly perennial copper flowers, and steel ringing bowls are visually, tactilely, and even auditorily impressive.
Primarily recognized for his nature photography and inimitable fine art figure work, Charles Laurier Dufour will exhibit newly created pieces as well as a few recent award winners. Dufour describes some of his work as narrative, like a short story, allowing viewers to briefly enter the imaginary world of the characters in the composition.
The balance of Art Space Gallery displays the works of 15 more artists, adorning the walls in two additional rooms and a hallway. All forms of visual arts are exhibited, guaranteed to whet the appetites of art lovers of any genre. Art Space is located at 342 Main Street in Rockland, directly across the street from the Strand Theatre. Bring a friend!
