4th Annual Aroostook State Park Birding Festival

Saturday June 23, 2012

In celebration of International Birding Day, Maine’s northern-most birding event is all about the birds. Guided bird walks take participants thru Maine’s First State Park, enjoying the many habitats which make this home to over 100 species of birds. There will be a live birds of prey display, bird-banding presentation, educational lectures on Bald Eagles and Woodcock, build-a-birdhouse station, kayak and canoe rides, and more. The fee is $2/ages 12-64 and $1/ages 5-11, all others free. Coffee, hot cocoa and water are available for participants and lunch will be available for a small donation. Those who attend are eligible to win door prizes. Participants are advised to dress appropriately and bring personal birding equipment such as binoculars, books, as well as sun screen and insect repellent. (Use of Maine Outdoor Heritage funded binoculars will be available during walks). The Aroostook Birding Festival is a rain or shine event. Contact the park office at (207) 768-8341 for further info or notice of cancellation if the weather is severe. Event is from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Camping is available, to make reservations go to Camp with Me.
