“Healthy Living” is a series of workshops sponsored by United Way of Eastern Maine and the Town of Bucksport designed for adults age 50 or older to assist them in planning for their health and safety as they age in their homes and communities of choice.
The program consists of a series of eight, 2-hour workshops beginning on November 14th and proceeding monthly on the second Thursday for the following seven months.
Each workshop will include an assessment on individual health and wellness needs across a broad scope of topics. A variety of multi-disciplinary experts from a wide scope of fields will deliver presentations on topics, including: active living, healthy eating, fitness, home maintenance and repair, insurance and financial considerations, legal concerns, health and safety issues and communication about needs with friends and family members.
The program will include a keynote presentation by Ricker Hamilton, Deputy Commissioner of Programs at the Department of Health and Human Services. Mr. Hamilton previously served as the Director of Aging and Disability Services at DHHS.
Participants will receive a newly revised 50-page directory of local area resources, which they can keep to access in the future and develop a plan to address their needs. Lunch will be served. There is a suggested donation of $4 per workshop.
