The Husson Institute of Continuing Health Education Programming (HICHEP) will hold a conference entitled, “Applying Best Practices to Wound Management” on Friday, December 7, 2012. The conference will begin with registration at 9 a.m. and will end at 4 p.m. It will be held in the Dyke Center for Family Business located on the Husson campus.

The goal of the conference is to describe current basic wound management and advanced treatment options for health care providers who deal with clinically challenging wounds. Attendees will learn how to stay ahead of the Pay for Performance curve through sessions covering current best practices in wound management from early assessment and intervention to new and advanced treatments, what the primary care physician can do prior to sending to a wound clinic, at-risk patients, and novel treatment for problem diabetic wounds.

The conference is geared toward primary care providers, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other clinical staff of acute, skilled or home care settings, involved with wound care and high-risk patients.

Speakers at the conference include Deborah Whittemore, MSN, ANP, associate professor, School of Nursing, Husson; Kim Fantasia, MSN, FNP-C, specialist, Inland Hospital Wound Clinic, Beth A. Allen, RN, BSN, Director of Hyperbaric/Wound Healing Center, St. Joseph Hospital, and William Lindblad, Ph.D., chair, basic pharmaceutical sciences, School of Pharmacy, Husson.

Tuition for the conference is $85 per participant, which includes materials, lunch, refreshment breaks, and a certificate of attendance. Organizations registering three or more participants receive a discount fee of $70 per participant. Seating is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
