On Saturday, January 11 at 1pm, the League of Women Voters of Bangor welcomes community attendance to a showing of, A Place at the Table. The showing will be held in the Lecture Hall at the Bangor Public Library. League members will also facilitate a discussion following the conclusion of the film. This event is free and open to the public.

A Place at the Table is a film by the producers of Food, Inc. It tells of the 50 million people in the U.S., including one in four children, who don’t know where their next meal is coming from. This is despite living in a country that has the means to provide nutritious, affordable food for all Americans. A Place at the Table shows how hunger poses serious economic, social and cultural implications for the nation. It presents solutions that, it says, could solve this problem once and for all, if the American public decided that making healthy food available and affordable is in the best interest of the entire country.

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
