Woods names Mentzinger campaign manager

FALMOUTH — Stephen M. Woods has named Bob Mentzinger campaign manager in his bid to represent state Senate District 25.

Woods, of Yarmouth, is president and CEO of TideSmart Global, an international marketing firm based in Falmouth that employs 75. He also serves as chairman of the Yarmouth Town Council and ran a statewide campaign for U.S. Senate in 2012.

Mentzinger, of Brunswick, is a former newspaper editor who served as media adviser to Cynthia Dill in her successful pursuit of the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in 2012.

“Steve offers voters a compelling combination of entrepreneurial success and public service I feel will be very hard to beat,” Mentzinger said. “He’s the type of forward-thinking job creator the Legislature needs right now.”

Woods is seeking the Democratic nomination to represent state Senate District 25, most of which is the former District 11 and includes the towns of Chebeague Island, Cumberland, Falmouth, Gray, Long Island, Westbrook and Yarmouth.

From 2008 to 2010, Woods served his community as chairman of the Yarmouth Planning Board. In June 2010, Woods was elected to serve on the Yarmouth Town Council, where he currently serves as the only three-year chairman in Yarmouth’s history.

In 2012, Woods ran as an independent for an open U.S. Senate seat to inspire change in partisan politics and increased civic participation. Early in the campaign, Woods made a commitment to former Gov. Angus King that, if he was trailing King by 10 points or more the week prior to the election, he would drop his bid and endorse King. The agreement was honored a week prior to the election.

Woods has supported numerous charities and civic groups in Maine, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine, where he is a current board member. Woods is also a co-owner of the NBA D-League team, the Maine Red Claws – the NBA affiliate of the Boston Celtics. And he hosts a national weekly radio talk show. Airing on WLOB (1310 AM) in Portland, “TideSmart Talk with Stevoe” can be heard each Saturday, from 11 am to 1 pm – and is available by podcast around the world.

Together with his wife Katie and their three children, Woods lives in Yarmouth, “the best little town in the big state of Maine!”
