Rockport – A fun-filled winter festival will be held at the Jean H. Kislak P.A.W.S. Community Dog Park on Camden Street on Sunday, February 23rd from noon to 3 p.m. In case of inclement weather the festival will be held the following Sunday, March 2nd.
A not-to-be-missed event, there will be activities for the whole family including our dogs who will have the opportunity to compete in obedience trials, an obstacle course race, and a fashion show of winter finery. Well known dog trainer from Warren, Thom Lambert, will judge the obedience and obstacle course trials.
Registration for dogs who will be participating in the various judged events will begin at 11:30 am. There will be a suggested registration fee for participating in the judged events of $5 per dog.
“If you have ever seen our dog shows at the Camden Harbor Park during the Windjammer Festival you know what fun the interactive activities for the dogs and their owners are,” said Jean Freedman-White, chair of the dog park committee. “And for the adults and children there will be a snow building contest as well as hot drinks and cookies.”
“We are very excited about our first interactive public event at the dog park. Dogs’ owners, adults and children alike will have fun by participating in the snow building contest and I am sure the dogs will get into the act as well. I am guessing we will see fire hydrants, dog biscuits, and toys among other things that people will create out of snow,” speculated Freedman-White.
Squares for a “virtual” quilt will be sold at the event to raise money for dog park operations. For $100 a square your or your family’s name will be placed on the quilt board to be displayed at the dog park during park events.
