Southwest Harbor Public Library presents readings by Ken Olson, Tuesday evening, May 20, 5:30pm. Spend an hour in the wilds with Ken, retired president and CEO of Friends of Acadia. He will read short selections from his published and unpublished work—book excerpts, op-eds, fiction and verse. Themes include wilderness, national parks and non-conservation subjects.
Open discussion will following the reading.
Mr. Olson is co-author, with Brooks Atkinson, of New England’s White Mountains: At Home in the Wild. He also contributed to the anthology Mountain Passages, as well as to First Light: Acadia National Park and Maine’s Mount Desert Island by Tom Blagden, Jr. His essays have appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, and L.A. Times, among other papers, and in magazines such as Yankee, The Nature Conservancy News, Friends of Acadia Journal, River Runner and National Parks. Early in his career Ken was editor and publisher of Appalachian Mountain Club books and periodicals, including Appalachia, America’s oldest journal of mountaineering and conservation.
