WCCC Students Tour Augusta and Gain Insight into the Future Job Market

Posted May 02, 2013, at 9:53 a.m.

Students in the Heavy Equipment Operation and Heavy Equipment Maintenance programs at Washington County Community College were in Augusta in April to attend the 33rd annual Construction Expo of Maine.

Students had the opportunity to view the latest in technology as they visited more than 175 indoor exhibits and two acres of outdoor exhibits provided by the leaders in products and services for the construction industry.

In addition to an inside look at the latest in the industry, WCCC students also were able to network as they met with company officials about possible full-time employment opportunities.

After visiting the morning expo, students spent the afternoon in Bangor where HEO Instructor Artie Mahar, with the help of Lane Construction Corp. Assistant District Manager Eric Ritchie, organized a tour of Lane’s Bangor facility.

Students toured the quarry, maintenance garage and asphalt plant. While on site, a supervisor for each of the facilities talked about what Lane has to offer new graduates. After the visit, Lane gave souvenir duffle bags and hats to all the students.
