Farmers National Co. has announced that Lee Vermeer, vice president of real estate operations, has retired after leading the company’s real estate and appraisal business lines for the past 11 years.
Vermeer first joined Farmers National Co. in 1982 as a farm manager and real estate agent in Sioux City, Iowa. He was quickly promoted to regional vice president, based in Columbus, Ohio, then moved up to the position of area vice president/area sales manager for Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois.
Under his management, the real estate department has seen strong performance in its sales business. Growth peaked in 2012 with a record of over $640 million in gross sales from 850 properties. The appraisal department has also grown under Lee’s direction from two state-certified appraisers to over 20.
“Lee’s leadership and professional standards have been key to our growth and success over the past 30 years,” said Jim Farrell, president of Farmers National Company. “He has been a great spokesman for us throughout the country. We have developed the premier real estate team in the country under his watch.”
Over the years, Vermeer has been an active member of Farmers National Co.’s management team, including service on its long range planning committee and board of directors. He has also been very active in various professional organizations, earning both the Accredited Farm Manager (AFM) and Accredited Land Consultant (ALC) designations.
Derrick Volchoff, ALC, has joined Farmers National Company as its new vice president of real estate operations. Volchoff, originally from Michigan, spent the last three years in western Nebraska managing an international real estate division serving landowners and clients. Volchoff earned a real estate license at the age of 20 while studying at Central Michigan University. He has also completed many hours in graduate level program in real estate.
