FORT KENT, Maine — The Maine Department of Transportation will be limiting passage of oversized vehicles on Fort Kent International Bridge due to construction.
Contractors will be working on booth and canopy construction through July, which limits the maneuverability of oversized vehicles attempting to cross. Large trucks are encouraged to use alternate routes including the border crossing at Madawaska.
The expected schedule is as follows:
— June 16-July 13-: Vehicles measuring 9 feet wide by 12 feet high and 22 feet long will not be allowed on the bridge. This is both inbound and outbound traffic.
— July 15-28: Vehicles entering the United States are limited to those smaller than 9 feet wide by 12 feet high and 22 feet long. Vehicles leaving the United States to enter Canada must be shorter than 49 feet.
The new bridge will be fully open to traffic by July 31. There will be no construction activity Aug. 8-24 while the World Acadian Congress is underway.
