Krina Patel, a University of Maine graduate, is running the Boston Marathon for Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP).

Patel, an attorney specializing in healthcare and legislative relations with the Suffolk Group, believes that every person should have access to high quality healthcare. “As a civil society, we must take care of our most vulnerable citizens and being without a home and healthcare can leave someone at their most vulnerable,” she said.

Patel was introducted to BHCHP when she volunteered at the nonprofit through Boston Young Healthcare Professionals, a group she co-founded. Her organization helps young professionals use their career in health care to positively impact the local community. Patel has used her participation on Team BHCHP for the 2014 Boston Marathon to engage her health professionals group to raise funds for BHCHP and awareness of BHCHP’s work.

So far, she has raised almost $4,500 for BHCHP.

Founded in 1985, BHCHP has evolved into the largest and most comprehensive health care for the homeless program in the country, delivering services to more than 12,000 homeless men, women and children a year at more than 80 shelters and sites. For more information, visit www.bhchp.org.
