THOMASTON, MAINE – Trekkers, a nonprofit outdoor-based youth mentoring organization, is holding its “Bid Big, Laugh Loud” Auction Event on Saturday, November 9th at the Owls Head Transportation Museum. New this year, the event will include the humor of Maine’s own Tim Sample following the auction portion of the evening.
The auction preview will begin at 6:00pm. After a brief introduction by Tim Sample, Auctioneer Bruce Gamage will start the bidding, with live and silent auctions from 6:30-8:30pm. The live auction will include some choice items, such as 6-day African safari packages for two, including lodging, all meals and two daily game viewing activities with Zulu Nyala Lodge in South Africa; a ride for two in a 1933 Waco biplane at the Owls Head Transportation Museum, a signed and framed copy of “One Today” by Inaugural Poet Richard Blanco; a signed print by local artist Ronald Frontin; lift tickets, artwork from local artists, and gift certificates for golf, karate, horseback riding, seafood, along with many other items to help get your holiday shopping off to a great start.
Following the auction, the crowd will be entertained by the wit and humor of Tim Sample beginning at 8:30pm. Widely acknowledged to be New England’s premier native humorist, Sample was born and raised in Maine and has never lived (or for that matter wanted to live) anywhere other than the Pine Tree State. Novelist Stephen King says, “He’s funny if you come from Augusta Maine…he’s just as funny if you come from Augusta Georgia.” Charles Kuralt called him “Maine’s humorist laureate.”
The event will combine fantastic auction items, delicious desserts and a hilarious evening with Tim Sample, all to benefit Trekkers’ students. The proceeds will be directly applied to the students’ program fees. Admission to the auction is free. For those who attend the auction portion of the evening, there will be no additional charge for Tim Sample’s performance. For those arriving after 8pm, there will be a $10 per person charge. There will also be an all-you-can-eat dessert buffet for $5, with over 80 desserts to choose from.
