Trekkers Announces Big Trek/Little Trek Program for the Fall

Posted Oct. 22, 2012, at 9:49 a.m.

Trekkers will begin the eighth year of its Big Trek/Little Trek program on Monday, October 22. Big Trek/Little Trek is a mentoring program that pairs high school students with third and fourth grade students from St. George School and Lura Libby School. Students from Oceanside High School will participate as mentors, and will contribute over 100 hours of community service through the program this fall.

Twelve pairs of Big Trek/Little Trek students will meet for an hour each week for seven weeks. Together they will participate in activities in both large group settings and meeting one on one, in a way that allows the space for closer connections and mentoring relationships to build. The students will spend a lot of time being active outdoors together on the playground and playing basketball, or by playing board games and doing arts and crafts.

“We have a lot of great high school mentors signed up for this fall’s session,” said Trekkers Program Coordinator Alaina Ennamorati, “and I’m excited to see them interact with the elementary school students in fun, positive ways. It’s what makes this program so successful.”

Another seven-week session of Big Trek/Little Trek will be offered in the spring. Any high school student from Regional School Unit #13 can apply to be a mentor. For more information about the program, please contact Alaina at the Trekkers office, (207) 594-5095.
