Blue Hill, May 22: The Bagaduce Music Lending Library announces that tickets are now on sale for the 23rd annual Blue Hill Pops Concert. The annual musical festival of “Sounds Around Blue Hill” will be held on Wednesday, July 3 at 7:30 pm in the George Stevens Academy gymnasium on Union Street in Blue Hill. Corporate sponsors for the 2013 Blue Hill Pops are Bar Harbor Bank, Cape Air, PenAir and Stanley Subaru.

This year’s Blue Hill Pops will feature the renowned folksinger Gordon Bok. Deemed by Time Magazine as the “poet laureate of those who go down to the sea in ships”, Gordon Bok grew up in Camden, where he began singing and playing guitar at an early age, inspired by both his musical family and his coastal environment. He has recorded over 30 albums and has performed throughout the U.S. and around the world. In the words of one critic, “If the sea had a voice with which to sing, it would be the voice of Gordon Bok.”

The Atlantic Clarion Steel Band will perform outside as concert-goers enter, playing their fiery and infectious Caribbean rhythms. The New Trad Trio will entertain the audience from the stage before the concert begins with traditional jazz of the 30s and 40s. Other 2013 Blue Hill Pops performers will include the Scott Cleveland Trio playing straight-ahead jazz, with Scott Cleveland on piano, John Gallagher on bass and Bill Friederich on drums, and the Bagaduce Pops Singers, under the direction of Bronwyn Kortge, performing a medley from The Lion King.

As in past years, Blue Hill Pops will conclude with a patriotic finale featuring an audience sing-a-long of our nation’s service songs and “America the Beautiful”.

As an extra bonus, Blue Hill Pops will be air conditioned this year! Table seats, reserved chairs and bleacher seats are available in a range of prices, beginning at $10. For tickets, please call 374-5454, or stop by the Bagaduce Music Lending Library on Greene’s Hill in Blue Hill.
