Thornton wins 41st Annual Miss International’s Outstanding Teen Title

Calais- Haley Thornton of East Millinocket won the title of Miss Internationals Outstanding Teen 2014 at the 41st Miss International Scholarship Pageant. The pageant took place at Calais High School with over 50 contestants in multiple divisions. The Miss International Scholarship Pageant is the largest pageant in Washington County. The Miss International Scholarship stands strong in the four points of the crown. The four points of the Miss America crown, stand for: Service, Style, Scholarship & Success. These are the four main attributes that the Miss America Organization looks for, in the next Miss America and the next Miss America’s Outstanding Teen.

Thornton, 15, won several gift certificates from local sponsors; Wickachee Dining Room, Headline Hair Studio and King China. Thornton will represent the Miss International Scholarship pageant at the 2015 Miss Maine’s Outstanding Teen Pageant in Brunswick and will make appearances across the State promoting the Children’s Miracle Network, Make a Wish, and her personal platform Redrover ” bringing animals from crisis to care”. She will also be speaking in support of the goals of the Miss International and Miss Maine Outstanding Teen system.

Thornton was crowned by the outgoing Miss Internationals Outstanding Teen 2013 , Amber Hewes, of Baileyville.

This was Thornton’s first time to compete in the Miss International Scholarship Pageant.

Thornton will be a freshman at Schenk High School this fall. She is also a volunteer at the local nursing home and a member of the 2014 First place Show Choir group from Medway Middle School. For her talent selection she performed a monologue based on the movie “Funny Girl”.

Other awards won by Thornton include Overall Talent and Most Photogenic.

Thornton is the daughter of James and Robin Matarazzo of East Millinocket. Granddaughter of Jim and Jennifer Matarazzo of Corinth, ME and MaryKay Hane and James Armstrong of Reserve, NM.
