On Wednesday, July 9, at 6pm at the Northeast Harbor Library, Thom Willey will show his film titled “Richard Estes: My Camera is My Sketchbook.” Watch Richard Estes of Northeast Harbor, one of the world’s foremost contemporary realist artists, describe his journey from his boyhood home in Illinois to the life of famous artist in New York and Maine. Travel with Estes through time, viewing interviews in 1998 and 2014 as he reveals his influences and techniques to filmmaker and Southwest Harbor resident Thom Willey. Also featured in the film is local author and art critic Carl Little, to whom Estes describes how he creates the urban landscapes and other works that fill museum galleries and private collections around the world. It’s a candid look through the eyes of the artist, highlighted by many of the paintings that make up the world of Richard Estes.
This event is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome.
