THE NEW WORLD TO OPEN AT THE BARN
Bass Harbor, ME – July 25-27, 2014
The Mohawk Arts Collective will present the world premiere of a new show from an ensemble led by the New York City-based Bengali artist Misha Chowdhury, who is currently in residence in Bass Harbor on MDI.
The New World is a movement theater piece adapted from Burn Lake, a book of poetry by Carrie Fountain. The artists are developing the piece throughout their week-long residency, working in and around the performance space to create a powerful theater event in a natural setting.
“I feel incredibly fortunate to have Misha back at the Barn”, said Mohawk Arts Collective co-producer Andrew Simon. “He was here last month developing a new musical and two years ago when we first met. This time, we’re able to produce his newest work and share it with the community, who will be the first people to see this piece before it opens in New York.”
The New World runs for three performances only – July 25-27 – with shows on Friday and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 5pm.
The Barn is located at 130 Tremont Rd. in Bass Harbor on Mount Desert Island in Maine. Parking is across the street at the Tremont Consolidated School.
The Mohawk Arts Collective is an MDI arts group that hosts residencies in and around The Barn, their waterfront performance space. During the summer, they develop new work every week and offer shows for the public every weekend.
