Presenting a public talk on Thursday, June 6, 2013, 7:00 PM
University of Maine Hutchinson Center Auditorium
These days, many parents hope to give their sons and daughters a wide range of opportunities, but often this turns out to be difficult for a variety of reasons. Sociologist Emily W. Kane, author of The Gender Trap, will take a close look at the factors that sometimes lead parents and other adults to reinforce gender stereotypes, even when they are trying to avoid them. Join the conversation to explore what parents and others who care about children can do to dismantle the ‘gender trap,’ and help both girls and boys realize more of the opportunities available to them.
This event is free and open to all.
