The Landing School, a post-secondary institution focused on educating tomorrow’s marine industry professionals, is pleased to announce the appointment of Susan Daly to their Board of Directors.
Ms. Daly is an accomplished sailor and longtime supporter of the marine industry. As a Trustee on the Board of Directors, Daly will contribute to the mission, curriculum and overall strategy of The Landing School.
Daly’s sailing experience began at the age of ten when she started racing at a regional level. Since the age of 18 she has raced extensively at the national and international level. Daly’s racing experience as a crew spans a wide range of one-design boats including J-24s, Lightnings, Penguins, and 420s as well as team racing and match racing. She has done extensive cruising and racing in big boats on the East Coast, in the Midwest and Alaska as well as delivering boats from Bermuda and Panama to the United States.
In addition to her personal boating experience, Susan has over twenty-five years of leadership and marketing experience with high-tech startups, groundbreaking sports teams, educational programs for nontraditional learners, consumer goods and services, and workforce development programs. Most recently, she was the VP, Marketing at the International Yacht Restoration School (IYRS) where she developed and managed relationships with State workforce development agencies; educational institutions; local, State and federal government officials; and regional employers. As chairman of Rhode Island Marine Trades Association’s Education and Training Committee, she procured more than $1 million in federal and State funding for training, marketing and organization capacity building.
Prior to IYRS, she worked for several leading sailing companies including Vanguard Sailboats, Quokka Sports, and America3, the women’s America’s Cup team. Before joining the sailing industry, Susan worked for ten years in advertising.
Susan is a board member of the New York Yacht Club, Sailing Heals, the Yale Sailing Associates and the Southport Sailing Foundation. She has a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University and an MBA from Boston University.
“Susan’s professional and personal experience in the marine industry is truly impressive. Her knowledge of both boats and the industry indicates she has a great deal of knowledge to impart as we continue to grow and expand our educational offerings,” said Robert DeColfmacker, President of The Landing School. “At The Landing School, our students are consistently at the forefront of our decision making. Where Susan will have the greatest impact is ensuring that we continue to evolve our curriculum in a way that provides the highest level of education to our students while also helping to shape the future of the marine industry not only in Maine but nationally and internationally.”
