The Piscataquis Community Secondary School Class of 2013 will be working hard this year to break their streak of bad luck when it comes to class trips. MSAD #4 used to send all sixth grade students to Quebec, but then the terrorist attacks of 9-11 happened, and the Canadian border got harder to cross. The Class of 2013 did not get their Quebec trip. Eventually, SAD #4 started sending middle school students to Washington, D.C. instead – but not until the Class of 2013 was starting high school.
This is one of the few SAD #4 classes in recent history to have never gone anywhere, and students are determined to raise funds for a great post-graduation class trip in June. The goal is $12,000, which will pay for bus transportation, one overnight stay somewhere in New England, and food and entertainment for the graduates.
Students will be getting up in the wee hours of Saturday, November 10 to host a Hunter’s Breakfast from 4 to 8 a.m. at the Masonic Lodge on Hudson Avenue in Guilford. The menu includes pancakes, French toast, baked beans, eggs, bacon, sausage, donuts, juice, coffee and tea. Cost is by donation, with all proceeds going toward the students’ class trip next June. Students are very grateful for the community support received during their October 13 bottle drive. Teams of students and parents collected and sorted bottles from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., raising nearly $1,000 from the generous donations of bottles by friends, family and neighbors. Future bottle drives are planned, but in the meantime, both White’s Redemption Center on Crow Hill Road in Parkman and Route 23 Redemption in Sangerville will credit bottles to the students’ account if customers ask them to do so, and there is a collection bin in the parking lot of the Forget Me Not flower shop next to Rite Aid in Guilford where bottles may be dropped off for students to collect.
Upcoming fundraisers under discussion include a wreath sale, a Tastefully Simple food sale, and a Valentine’s Day raffle. For more information about PCSS Class of 2013 Project Graduation fundraisers, call Carrie Fellows at 717-5271.
