Aroostook County – Last month, participants at TAMC’s Community Lunch and Learn shared their thoughts, opinions and suggestions on how TAMC could become a better healthcare facility. This month they will learn how some of those thoughts may be put into action. Sylvia Getman, president and CEO of TAMC, will present the plan to make TAMC the “Best Rural Healthcare Organization in America.”
Getman will share TAMC’s strategy on recruiting new providers, improving the patient experience and expanding healthcare education which in turn will improve the health of the community. She will also review the changes for facilities in Presque Isle, Fort Fairfield, Mars Hill and Ashland.
Getman has served as president and CEO of TAMC since August 2010. She also serves as senior vice president of Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems. Prior to coming to TAMC, she was the president and CEO of Nantucket Cottage Hospital from 2007 to 2010. She also served as chief executive officer of Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage, Iowa and as a vice president for Network Systems for Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.
Getman earned bachelor and master’s degrees in business from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has a long history of volunteerism and commitment to community organizations, especially in the area of healthcare advocacy and economic development. She is a member of the Presque Isle Rotary Club and the University of Maine Foundation. She serves as an alternate for the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board and is one of twenty 2013/2014 AHA Healthcare Transformation Fellows. She has been named to the 2013 Next list by Mainebiz, as one of ten key players shaping the future of Maine’s economy, in recognition of her work “guiding a rural health care system during a time of rapid change.”
Getman, her husband Bill, and their three sons, Bill Jr., Christopher and Jamison make their home in Mars Hill.
The luncheon takes place at 11:00 a.m. at the Presque Isle Inn and Convention Center and participants will enjoy a boiled dinner in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. Prior to the luncheon, Renee Guerrette, TAMC rehab care coordinator, will be performing balance and cognitive testing, and staff from Crown Emergency Services will be offering a free blood pressure screening. Pre-diner music will be performed by ‘The Band.’
