The First Baptist Church Sanctuary at 95 High Street will be the venue during July and August for Sunday Evening “Jazzz.” Well-known jazz pianist and saxophonist, Lincoln Blake will team up with Rev. Alan Shumway, pastor of First Baptist Church to host the Sunday evening events.
Rev. Shumway is classically trained in voice and piano and is now branching out into more improvisational music. The “jazzz” begins Sunday July 1 at 6:00 pm and will continue each Sunday through August 26.
Blake and Shumway have performed together recently at local fundraising events. They offer lively duets of old standards with an undercurrent of jazz from Blake’s saxophone and piano keys along with Shumway’s tenor voice and piano backup. It was from these performances that the idea of a summer series of free lance jazz for the public evolved.
Black says: “We expect an array of musicians and vocalists from around the mid-coast area and are quite excited to be using this great accoustic setting. It should be a lot of fun for everyone! We’ll have an open microphone for vocalists and plenty of space for other musicians to participate.”
