Surprises are not as much fun as they used to be, but the stock markets are full of surprises and “buy & hold” doesn’t seem to work as well as it used to. What to do? Sell ? Invest more? Come to a basic investing seminar for the Alfred E. Newman (“What, ME worry?”) wannabe do-it-yourself investor on July 1 and 29 at 3:00 p.m., Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center, 521Main Street, Damariscotta.
Dave Clemens is a retired corporate/securities attorney who summers in Maine. He will summarize different types of securities and outline possible strategies for those who wish to (a) eliminate mysticism from investing and (b) devise an investment program based on pre-determined objective criteria. Depending on how much ground is covered in the first scheduled session and on audience interest, subsequent sessions may be scheduled to provide more complete and/or additional information. Possible areas of discussion include fundamental and technical analysis of stocks in general (audience-selected stocks may be used as examples), asset allocation, risk management, stock selection, stock options, and stock market indicators. The only prerequisite is interest. No background knowledge is necessary. David’s “Investing for Dummies” workshop will start at the beginning. Although not necessary, for those who want to book mark websites that are visited during the workshop, bring your laptop. The Center has WiFi access. Get ready to become a savvy investor. To register call 563-1363. $5 participation fee per session.
