AUGUSTA, Maine — State Sen. Thomas Saviello, R-Franklin, recently was named a Margaret Chase Smith Distinguished Maine Policy Fellow.
Those who receive this honor are prominent Maine individuals with past or current careers as policy makers in the state. The Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center brings these individuals to campus for a day to teach an undergraduate class, engage faculty about research and public policy, and meet with University of Maine administration and graduate students.
“This is truly an honor,” Sen. Saviello said in a press release. “Margaret Chase Smith’s extraordinary career and legacy of being an independent voice for Maine continues to be an inspiration to all of us in public service. I am grateful to be in the company of those who have been named fellows.”
Sen. Saviello has a master’s degree in Agronomy and a PhD in Forest Resources, both from the University of Maine. He represents Maine Senate District 18 in the Maine Senate, which includes parts of Somerset, Kennebec, and Franklin Counties. He was first elected to the Senate in 2010, after serving four terms in the Maine House of
Representatives, and serves on the Legislature’s Environment and Natural Resources Committee.
