St. Joseph Hospital changes opening date for vegetable exchange stand

Posted July 04, 2013, at 1:39 p.m.

BANGOR, Maine –  The St. Joseph Hospital Community Vegetable Exchange Stand will open for the season from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, July 19, and continue each Friday throughout the summer. The opening date, originally July 5, had to be rescheduled because of the slow growing season.

Thanks to the generosity of St. Joseph employees and community members, those in the area who do not have access to fresh produce can take home fresh fruits and vegetables at no charge.

Gardeners in the community are asked to please drop off produce as well as other garden/farm staples like herbs on Fridays with the volunteers at the Front Desk at St. Joseph Hospital anytime before 11 a.m., or right at the vegetable stand located just outside the Demaso Family Lobby (Broadway) between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

For several years, the Stand has been a great success for gardeners with extra produce to share with those looking for healthy groceries and continues the St. Joseph mission of improving the wellness of the community.
