The American Library Association has declared the week of April 21-27 “Money Smart Week” to promote personal financial literacy, and the Jesup Memorial Library will be offering a free program about retirement planning and investing on Tuesday, April 23, at 7 p.m. with certified financial planner Andrew Shea of Bar Harbor.
Mr. Shea is an investment advisor representative affiliated with Boston Partners Financial Group, LLC. In 1999, he partnered with Tom Spencer in Sudbury, Mass. and continues to maintain an office there. In 2004, he opened an office in Bar Harbor and relocated his family back to Maine, his home state.
He says that retirement planning is for everyone. Consider these three facts — fewer than half of Americans have calculated how much they need to save for retirement; in 2009, 13 percent of private industry workers with access to a defined contribution plan (such as a 401(k) plan) did not participate; the average American spends 20 years in retirement.
This is a free discussion and is open to everyone. For more information, contact the library at 288-4245.
