Augusta, Maine – Skowhegan Savings recently announced the grand opening of their new, state-of-the-art branch in Augusta. As part of a six-week grand opening celebration, Skowhegan Savings Bank CEO John Witherspoon presided over a ribbon cutting ceremony at 450 Civic Center Drive on Wednesday, June 19. Augusta Mayor William Stokes, Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Peter Thompson, Chairman of the Skowhegan Savings Board of Directors Roger Gifford of Gifford’s Ice Cream, and 50 other bank representatives and members of the local business community attended the ceremony.

“We are delighted to be opening the doors of our new Augusta branch,” said John Witherspoon, Skowhegan Savings President and CEO. “Our new Augusta branch is only 10 minutes away from our former branch in Belgrade and is much more accessible to a growing number of business clients in Augusta.”

The Skowhegan Savings Augusta branch is also the first Skowhegan Savings branch to feature “open dialogue banking.” Open dialogue banking allows for more personalized communications with customers by removing the barriers of a traditional teller line. The new branch will also be accessible from both sides of the road and will feature convenient drive-up banking.

To celebrate the grand opening, Skowhegan Savings Bank will be hosting events and giveaways all summer long, including a brand new Old Town Canoe giveaway, iPad mini giveaways each week, and free lunches on Fridays hosted by area restaurants (see schedule below).

With the Augusta branch opening, Skowhegan Savings has re-located the Belgrade branch located at 940 Augusta Road to the new Augusta branch. Simultaneously, the bank opened a new, state of the art drive-up ATM machine in Belgrade.

Grand Opening Celebration Schedule:
