There are still a few spaces left in the seed-starting workshop at Merryspring Nature Center on Saturday, March 16 at 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Guests will join new Merryspring Garden Manager Brijin Thomas in the Aileen Lubin Greenhouse to explore the “whys,” “hows,” and “whens” of starting plants from seed. In addition to selecting the right type of seed for Maine’s climate, careful consideration has to be practiced in choosing the right growing medium, light and heat requirements, and when to water to ensure successful germination and healthy plants. Brijin will also offer tips and tricks for post germination, including disease control and prevention, thinning seedlings, and when to transplant outdoors. Participants will be able to choose from a variety of vegetable, herbs, and flower seeds to start and take home.
This class is part of the Weekend Workshop series at Merryspring, sponsored by Camden Real Estate. The cost of this workshop is $10 for Merryspring members and $15 for non-members. Pre-registration is required and limited to 12 participants. Interested parties may sign up by contacting Merryspring at 236-2239 or www.merryspring.org
