This time last year, I was sailing south to the Bahamas on a 125 ft schooner, the Liberty Clipper, out of Boston. My wife would follow me by 2 weeks after she closed up the house in Lincolnville to meet me in Baltimore. We spent the winter getting a new winter sailing charter business started up in Nassau for our daughter & new son-in-law. Sound like fun? Well……we did all the business scouting on shore for food and supplies and did all the cooking for 20-30 people a day out of a 6 by 10 galley. Hours 5:30 am to 8:30 pm 7 days a week. However, the weather and water were fantastic, sailing was great and the weekly highlight was Elvina’s Bar in Gregorytown, Eleuthera.
Now we are back in Maine, 3 cords of wood in the barn, and waiting for our 2 grandchildren to arrive before Thanksgiving. I guess we will have to wait until they are born! What a year. Check out the website for the schooner and you may see us somewhere on board, near the galley. My wife will be wearing an apron and holding a frying pan, I will be hiding on deck, blabbing with our crew and customers and trying to avoid work or her steely glaze…

PS – We did this ourselves a few years ago…like 38 years ago in Tortola…NONE of our crew, including the captain and the owner were ven BORN at that time…
